VSI: View Student Information On-Line Introduction Welcome to VSI.Net. VSI allows parents/guardians to view real-time information about their child. That means as soon as your child is marked absent, you will see it on-line. With a user login and password, you will now be able to see you child's student information - all within a user-customizable website. The website requires no downloads or plug-ins. VSI.Net can be accessed with only a computer and an internet connection. It is compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. Accessing The Site You must have a username and password, assigned by the school district, to begin using the site. You may request a username and password by sending the following required information via e-mail to twilliams@nbschools.net - 1) Student name, 2) Student ID number, 3) Student Grade Level, and 4) the last four digits of their social security number for verification purposes. Once you have your username and password, you may go to the login screen either directly at http://vsi.newbostonasp.com or by going to the school district's home page at http://www.nbschools.net and selecting "Student Grade Viewer" from the Quick Links. Both the username and password are case sensitive, so be sure to type it in exactly as it appears in your letter or e-mail you receive after you request access, along with your login instructions. Pay close attention to the assigned password. The password assigned to your account will end with an asterisk (*). This asterisk is part of your initial password and must be included in order to log in. The system will prompt you to change your password the first time you log in. You may also change your password at any time after that by logging in and select "Account Information" located top right of the browser window next to the "Logout" button and follow the instruction in the pop-up box. NOTE: Your password must be 6 to 15 characters in length, must start with a letter, and must contain at least one non-alpha character. The password cannot contain the user's first name. Using the Site Once you are logged in, information about the student will appear in boxes just below the student name and contact information. If you have a multi-user account, you may switch from one child to the other by selecting the child's name you wish to view in the drop-down window just above the contact information at the top. It will open one child by default, and you just click on the down arrow by their name to see the list and select the other child's name by clicking their name. The grades appear in the box on the right hand side. For better detail, change the viewer setting in the Grades box from “Semester” to “Marking Period.” If you want to see more detail of a grade, just click on the grade you wish to see, and the information will appear on the left side. You can expand the tree by clicking the boxes with the plus sign in it until you can see assignment and test grades. Click on an individual assignment to see detail about that assignment on the right side, including, due date, description, and total possible points. Some other notable information can be found by clicking "Student Information." You can see a daily calendar of attendance for a class by clicking on the course name in the Attendance box on the left. If you ever click on something and can't find your way out of it, click the "Home" button on the top left to get back to the start page or just use your back arrow on your web browser. When you are ready to exit, just click "Logout" on the far top right of the browser window. Problems with the page display after you upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 With the release of Internet Explorer 8, some compatibility issues with existing web pages may prevent the information from displaying properly. You can set your IE 8 browser to view these pages in "compatibility mode." Click here for instructions on how to set web pages to be viewed in compatibility mode.
